Celebrity Big Brother has never exactly been a bastion of calm, but this year’s series has gone full speed from day one. Between Mickey Rourke getting a formal warning for homophobic remarks towards JoJo Siwa and Chesney Hawkes telling Ella Rae Wise to pipe down moments after stepping foot in the house, the drama has been relentless.
But now, the internet has decided to zero in on… Michael Fabricant’s hair.
Yes, that hair. The former MP-turned-CBB housemate has been the subject of wig-related whispers for years, and it all came to a head (pun intended) this week when EastEnders icon Patsy Palmer went straight in.
“Michael, is there a reason that you wear that? That you wear a wig?”
The question, delivered with eyebrow raised and glass in hand (probably), was met with Fabricant’s signature smile and a slightly hesitant:
“I just have always had long blonde hair, so I just feel comfortable.”
Not quite letting it go, Patsy pressed:
“Yeah, so not because you are bald?”
Cue the nation holding its collective breath.
Fabricant, 74, insisted again that it’s simply his style, and added:
“I don’t particularly like talking about it. It’s just how I want to be. It’s part of me.”
The moment was, frankly, awkward. And now, the internet is doing what it does best — investigating with all the delicacy of a tabloid headline from 2003. “Michael Fabricant bald”, “Michael Fabricant without his wig”, and “young Michael Fabricant” are breakout Google searches, even though any pics of a pre-political Fabricant are rarer than a calm day in the Big Brother house.
For the record: Michael has always had that infamous swoosh of blonde — at least publicly. And honestly? Whether it’s real, synthetic, or a well-kept national secret, does it really matter?
Fabricant clearly thinks so. After the interaction, he voted to evict Patsy Palmer, citing the wig chat as his reason.
“She asked me something about ‘Why do I wear a wig?’… I’m not saying it is a wig, actually. But I found it slightly awkward being asked about it. That’s my sensitivity. Look, we’re all human. I’m more human than most.”
Iconic line, but the emotion behind it was clear: the teasing had gone a step too far. This wasn’t the first jab, either — Drag Race alum Danny Beard had earlier joked, “Who’s getting in the hot tub? Come on, Michael, we’ll take our hair off!”
It might’ve been one wig joke too many.
In a house built for scandal and showdowns, it’s worth remembering that even seasoned politicians have soft spots. Whether Michael’s hair is his or a little help from the wig gods, maybe — just maybe — it’s time we left it alone.
Unless, of course, there’s a hot tub scene. In which case, all bets are off.
